These pages contain the coursework I've done in the Leader in Virtual Studies classes.
My name is John Ertel and I'm a Technical Publications Manager for a software company. I was a technical writer for ten years and have now managed for five. I used to author in Dreamweaver and FrontPage but my team has now moved to Madcap Flare. I haven't touched HTML in years and was never that proficient in it anyway (we mostly used the WYSIWYG). As technical authors we face a lot of new challenges with broadband, mobile, and social media and I want to learn the HTML framework so I can work my way up to Javascript, jQuery, and advanced CSS. This is so that I can better understand what my team is doing and to expand my own skillset.
I also want to start my own web site at some point. I have an interest in plastic modeling and would like to post histories, reviews, build pictures, etc. I figure that will give me something to do when I finally retire.
In Experiment 1, we learned the basics of adding text.
In Experiment 2, we learned about formatting tags and validating HTML and CSS.
In Lesson 3, we learned about inheritance and font properties.
In Lesson 4, we learned about images and linking.
In Lesson 5, we learned all about padding and margins.
In Lesson 6, we bring together all of the instruction and add this index page.
