On this page, I'm going to share some of my favorite places to visit online. I have them all bookmarked! I will divide them into SIX different categories.
I would say that this is the number one reason I surf the net: Entertainment. And I would bet that's most people's motivation as there is so much to discover and amuse oneself with. Check out my number one favorite entertainment site below.
I.M.D.b. stands for The Internet Movie Database. This site contains loads of information on any given actor or actress; films; producers; directors; etc. It is a great source for getting a snapshot of an actors resume, from past projects to what current projects their are in the midst of as well as upcoming preproduction films/sitcoms/documentaries they are already cast for.
IMDb is a also a great source for perusing on-set and on-location photos from all your favorite movies of television shows! I believe this site also poses as a pseudo Oscar Awards platform for all us fans: you can vote and give ratings on all your favorite and not so favorite actors and films.....WAY FUN!
Lastly, if being a movie buff is your second career, then IMDb is the best online school available...just ask my aspiring-actress daughter!
Yummmmmmmmmmm! Who doesn't like to eat yummy food??? Of course you do too. Although most of us just go to the store and just pick from what is available on the shelf, I like to seek out "alternative" foods and not rely on just the typical American Diet. And it is the next website that would be Exhibit A to that definition.
Ok! I probably don't go on this website as much as I visit the store physically, but Whole Foods Market is such an awesome source of fresh, healthy, good-for-the-environment, yummy food. When you are making that killer recipie that has some uncommon, exotic ingredient you just can't find sold anywhere, it's Whole Foods Market that usually carries it and may even have several different brands. Their deli, salad bar, pizza oven, vitamin and supplement section, mini-massage parlor, meat and fish counters, and dining area make this store not just a typically grocery store but a place you can come have lunch or dinner, grab a quick massage and leave fed and relaxed knowing you ate quality, delicious food, provided by sustainable and responsible suppliers. Whole Foods Market is progressive about buying and supporting those growers, farmers and manufactures that put quality and health first.
There is one drawback however. My brother-in-law sums it up best: He says that the store should be named Whole Paycheck Foods Market as most items are on the pricey side. It's too bad, but I grin and bear it when it comes to my health as I believe you will pay one way or another....I mean come on!.....You can't tell me Diabetic and Cancer therapies are cheap and I would much rather spend my money on delicious, sustainable food from a store that really cares about my health and helps provide me with the quality of life that money can't buy!
It's hard not to hear about going "green" now days and for very good reasons. Reason's of which I'm sure we all know but just in case check out the following website and be prepared; instead of going "green", you may find yourself goingred from righteous indignation!
The Story of Stuff website is not for those of us who are accustomed to sticking our heads in the sand! It is easy to go through life here in America and believe that our way of life and business are at the pinnacle of civilization but it is this site that can make you seriously question that kind of mentality.
This site is sponsored by Tides Foundation and Funders Workgroup for Sustainable Production and Consumption and it is right at the site's intro where you can view it's most powerful tool: a 20 minute video segment detailing the innerworkings of a society built on mass production and mass consumption. This is a site worth everyone's while since the saying goes, "Knowledge is Power". And in my opinion, the Story of Stuff website is one of the BEST in educating and informing for more individual and personal power, thus more collective power as a people!
This next site easily fits into the the Entertainment category but OH WELL! It's definately one of my top favorites and has earned it's rightful place in my top 6!
Calling all Harry Potter fans! Mugglenet is soooooooooo much fun! Founded back when the first book of the seriers came out, by a fan himself, Emerson Spartz, in 1999 as a homeschooled 12 year-old! This site is composed of editorials, news and synopses of the Harry Potter films and books. It is also an encyclopedia of the books and there is a discussion forum where fans of Harry Potter can talk and discuss their predictions (although now all has been revealed since the 7th and final book release, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in 2007).
Honestly though, if you aren't a fan then who cares? Well, I say read the books! Becoming a fan will naturally follow and you will also naturally want to visit the site! I have never felt more like a child again until I became a Harry Potter fan and this site captures that essence!
OH! and just in case you were wondering about the funny website name.......well, a Muggle is a non-magical person and as such the site is only available to us mere humans who never got our Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry acceptance letter. Boo-hoo!
I am actually fairly new to this next website but it is so easy to setup and use that you need not be a high class geek to utilize and enjoy it's features.
Most people are already familiar with the Facebook website or at least have a basic knowlege of it's purpose and function. Well, I won't elaborate other than saying that this has been a great tool for old friends and co-worker to locate me and for me to locate them. And unless you are a fugitive in-hiding, this is a great place to rekindle old friendships or stay in touch with current friends and family.
Lastly, here is the sixth website that I like to frequent. It's perfect for gift giving, even if the gift is for yourself!......you'll see!
The last website I will mention is CafePress. This is an extremely versatile website, where you can make, create and buy clothing or apparell for yourself or someone else. You can custom creat items or pick and choose from a selection that includes other peoples creations. It is also extremely affordable. I have purchased from this website before on several occassions and will do so again and again. Definately check it out!
Lonelle's Top 6 Websites are: IMDb , Whole Foods Market , Story of Stuff , Mugglenet , Facebook , and CafePress
