Rather than amaze you with my dazzling wit (or something like that anyway!), this page is hopefully a show case for all the wonderful coding techniques I have (just about) grasped during this 6 weeks. My brain is a little dazzed by it all and sometimes, perhaps I feel things are working more by luck than judgement but let's give it a go!
Both are used in the CSS, which sets out how you want a webpage to appear visually. I believe that this is the difference between selectors and classes:
Selectors: You use these to set out how you want your page to display, setting visual criteria for elements. This makes life easy when you come to write the page as all the work is done!
Classes: These are there to give you the exception to your own rules. You have used selectors to say how you want your page to appear but now and then, you'll want to differ from the default you set and make a paragraph, word, phrase or section look different. The beauty of classes is that you can easily slip them in as you're working on a page.
My favourite trick I have learnt is the use of the span to make a single word or phrase with in a paragraph look different. I especially liked the Large Letter Effect.
Divs are great for making a whole section of your page appear a pre-defined way that is different from the rest of the page. As you can see, this one has centred all the text.
In this div,I have also adjusted the margins.
Since my assignments started with a moan about my cat, I shall end them with a picture of him. He's quite cute really! Although he has done a wee all over our dirty washing yesterday & (just chucked that in there to show I can code "special characters"!) even after 2 washes, my husband's shirts still smell suspicious. Whoops!
