Carrie's Take On Online Shopping

Books Office Supplies Pet Supplies

I live in the middle of nowhere. Until about six years ago, our little village didn't even have a supermarket. Only a tiny deli that tried its best, but whose freezers were usually down. As for books, that was a fifteen mile drive one way. So were Radio Shack and Staples, but that's another story.

Me and Amazon

Like so many others, I am an Amazon addict. In the old days of being a Barnes and Noble walk-in, I could never leave without a bulging shopping bag and empty wallet. Unfortunately, it's pretty much the same when I shop online at Amazon. Of course, if you log on to order a single book, you have to pad your order until you qualify for free shipping, right? As a further temptation, Amazon has everything. Even if it's out of print, you can very often get it from somebody selling used books.

This wonderful store can be found at Amazon.com

Sell Books, Too

Yes, I've done that as well as buy them. You set up an account with Amazon, pick a trade name for your business, and list your offerings. There's no guarantee they'll sell, but it doesn't cost you anything. Amazon even reimburses you for shipping (they charge the customer). I've had the most success with books on forensics. That seems to be a really hot topic these days, thanks to TV's CSI conglomerate.

Have you had any success selling your old books through Amazon? Please let me know how you do it.

Other Shopping Places

As a writer, as well as reader, I often need office supplies. My favorite site used to be Viking, but they have merged with Office Depot.

Officedepot.com

If you don't find what you want, just ask. You can also get a big fat catalog for the asking.
A pricier place, with a lot of gorgeous items from office furniture to bottled ink, and plenty of snob appeal, is Levenger. For a fun browse, or if you happen to want bottled ink (I do, I like to write with a fountain pen), or a seven-hundred-dollar desk chair, try them at levenger.com.

Don't Forget Your Furry Friends

Then there are the pets. My favorite site for dog and cat products is J-B Wholesale Pet Supplies, which can be found at J-B Wholesale

J-B has everything you could want for dogs and cats, including some excellent, highly recommended brands of pet food that are not available in supermarkets.

Another fine pet place is Doctors Foster and Smith. Unfortunately I don't have their address at my fingertips, but they can be found through Google. The doctors are both veterinarians and know their stuff. They will also answer questions on pet care.

No pets in your life? Back to books.

An Experiment with Latin

Just to See How It Works

In ipsum metus, consectetuer sit amet, vulputate quis, interdum eu, tellus. Suspendisse ullamcorper laoreet enim. Ut non dui ut dui suscipit rhoncus. Suspendisse potenti. Nam lobortis lacus eget est. Mauris justo ante, hendrerit ut, volutpat eget, dapibus eu, diam. Vivamus ipsum ipsum, hendrerit eget, vulputate ac, faucibus vitae, ligula. Nam tellus. Mauris ut mauris. Aenean sed turpis nec diam posuere ullamcorper. Proin nec neque. Pellentesque ullamcorper varius sapien. Praesent eu magna. Donec vitae tellus. Nunc consequat tortor sit amet lectus. Vestibulum sit amet ipsum.

Reminds me of my good old high school days. I got up to Latin 3 but there weren't enough students, so they canceled it. Anyway, Caesar was fun. I loved it when they lost a battle so his troops sat down by the roadside and cried. When I read that (translating out loud), I stopped and sort of choked, and the teacher said, "That's right." Very emotional troops. It's kind of cute.

How Am I Doing?

This assignment was a job and a half. It always is for me. I can't seem to get all the coding through my head. Anyway, it's supposed to be an improvement over the previous one. Check it out:
